இதிகாசமான மகாபாரத்தை பற்றி அறியாதவர்கள் பரந்துபட்ட இந்த பாரத தேசத்தில் எவரும் இருக்க மாட்டார்கள் என்றே எண்ணுகிறேன். இதன் ஒரு வரி சாராம்சம் பொதுவாக அனைவருக்கும் தெரிந்திருக்கும். விரிவான கதையை புத்தகங்கள் மூலமும் என்னைப் போன்றோர் தூர்தர்ஷன் தொடர் மூலமும் இன்றைய தலைமுறையினர் விஜய் டீவி தொடர் வழியாகவும் தெரிந்து வைத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். மகாபாரதம் என்பதே பல்வேறு கிளைக்கதைகளும் வேறுபட்ட கதைமாந்தர்களும்  அடங்கிய கருவூலம் என்று  பலர் கூறி கேள்வி பட்டிருக்கிறேன் ஆனால் இன்று எழுத்தாளர் ஜெயமோகன் எழுதிய 26 புத்தகங்கள் அடங்கிய 25,000 பக்கங்கங்களை வாசித்து முடித்துவிட்ட நிலையில் அதை முழுமையாக ஏற்கிறேன். உலகிலேயே மிகப் பெரிய நாவல் வரிசை என்ற பெருமையைப் பெற்றிருக்கும் இத்தொடரை முடிக்க 8 வருடங்கள் தேவைப்பட்டது எனக்கு!!! (தொடர்ச்சியாக வாசித்திருந்தால் விரைவில் முடித்திருந்திருக்கலாம் ) 2014-ம் வருடம் இவ்வரிசையின் முதல் புத்தகமான "முதற்கனல்" வெளிவந்ததுமே எனது கணவர் வாங்கி விட்டார் எனினும் நான் அதற்கு அடுத்த வருடமே அதைக் கையில் எடுக்கத் துணிந்தேன் ஏனென்றால் மிக எளிய நடையில்  எழுதப்பட்ட ...

Our drive from D.C had come to an end after 3 hours and 30 mins. We reached New Jersey touching a state line of Delaware on our way and enjoyed our dinner at A2B. Our palate and stomach can tolerate burgers and sandwiches only one time a day!!! (If there is no Indian restaurants in the vicinity we should at least look for Chinese or Mexican). We stayed at our friend's place for the night with the plan of visiting New York city the next day. We boarded NJ transit around 10:00 in the morning at Edison station. Parking was available and not free . The round trip costs around $20 for an adult. we reached our destination Penn Station, NY after an hour. AMTRAK is also in service which costs more with lesser commute time. As we all know New York city is all about busy streets and sub-way trains. மாரி செல்வராஜ் இயக்கத்தில் உதயநிதி ஸ்டாலின், வடிவேலு, Fahadh பாசில் நடிப்பில் கடந்த ஜூன் இறுதியில் திரைக்கு வந்த "மாமன்னன்" திரைப்படம் ஒரு மாதம் கழித்து OTT-ல் வெளிவந்துள்ளது.  இயக்குனரின் முந்தைய திரைப்படங்களான "பரியேறும் பெருமாள்" "கர்ணன்" போன்றே சாதி வன்மத்தைக் கண்டிக்கும் திரைப்படமாகவே "மாமன்னன்" படத்தின் கதைக் களமும் இருக்கும் என்பதை படத்தின் ப்ரோமோ, டீசரை வைத்தே நாம் ஊகித்தோம் எனினும் படத்தை பார்க்கும் ஆர்வம் நம் அனைவருக்கும் இருந்தது என்பதை மறுக்க இயலாது.  வழக்கம் போலவே மனதில் ஒரு சிறு பயத்துடன் தான் படத்தை பார்க்கத் துவங்கினோம். எதிர்பார்த்தது போலவே வன்முறைக் காட்சிகள் படம் ஆரம்பித்த சில நிமிடங்களிலேயே வந்து விட்டது. ஒரு வழியாக மனதை திடப்படுத்திக் கொண்டு படத்தை தொடர்ந்தோம் ஆனால் அடுத்த பாதி  ஓரளவிற்கு அமைதியாகவே சென்றது எனினும் எங்களுக்கு தான் "திக் திக்" என்றே இருந்தது. படத்திற்கு கதை என்றெல்லாம் பெரிதாக ஒன்றும் இல்லை ஆனால் வலுவான காட்சிகளைக் கொண்டு திரைப்படத்தை கட்டமைத்து முன் நகர்த்துகிறார் இயக்குனர். ஒவ்வொரு கதாபாத்திரத்தை அ...

It was the year 2006. The very first time I visited Niagara Falls. Mesmerized by its elegancy and the grandness I was standing there looking at the people in the long distance. By pointing at the Rainbow Bridge and the Giant Wheel on the other side of the falls my Husband exclaimed that "the falls might look more beautiful from the Canadian Side I Believe"!!! As a true Indian Immigrant we planned our Canada trip as soon as we received our Green Card. To refresh our Kids' memory we planned it as a road trip and decided to visit places along the way. N.C to D.C One fine morning we started our drive from Charlotte, N.C. After 6 hours of driving with couple of pit stops and crossing Virginia State we checked in at our hotel around 4:00 in the evening. Usually most of us will stay in suburbs like Fairfax, Dulles(VA), Baltimore(MD). We too did the same and booked ours in Camp Spring, MD.  The next book I picked up this summer was suggested by my 11 year old son. It was one of his recommended reading at school last year. This is the second book that he picked up where the protagonist is an immigrant. "Esperanza Rising" was the first of this kind he read at school. (I will give the link to that review at the end). In "Esperanza Rising" the main character is wealthy and moves to America followed by the series of unfortunate events happens in her life and ends up in California as a bonded Labor whereas in "Front Desk" the Protagonist Mia moves to America from China along with her parents with the hope of living an "American Dream". Mia Tang boards the flight to America with the dream of Pizza and Cookies whereas her parents longed to have a freedom which is a dream in China. With $200 in their pockets Mia's Parents have a tough time in the foreign land literally living in their car for months until they find a motel where they ar...

Generally Students of middle school and high school will have summer reading list. There will be numerous books in the list, they can pick one book from it and read it during the break. Here I got my list from my kids! The books that they enjoyed during 2022-2023 academic year. Firstly I picked up this book written by Mark Haddon. This book was in my high school daughter's (9th grade) curriculum. When she was in the middle of the book, she told me that I must read the book because it is very good. Here I read it on and off for a week and finished it. Christopher Boone, 15 year old boy narrates the story of himself. He lives with his father and mentions that he lost his mother 2 years ago in a heart attack. One fine evening he finds his neighbor's dog being murdered by someone with the garden fork. Police arrest him for the murder and shortly releases him which makes him want to investigate "who killed the dog?". He writes the investigation as a book! (Which is the one...
