Charlotte 2 Canada by Car - Kingston, Ontario #road_trip #travalogue

After Spending a day at Montreal our next main attraction to be visited was Toronto. It requires 5 plus hours on the road so we decided to visit Kingston which is on the way.

We drove 3 hours and reached Fort Henry around noon. It comes under National Historic Site and is situated in an elevated place so you could have a beautiful ariel view of Lake Ontario. We took a self guided tour of the Fort so we could move on our own phase. You need to purchase the tickets for the entry and it wasn't crowded.

we could experience the life of a soldier here. Various sections of the fort such as Kitchen, Dining Area, Officers' room and Class rooms is maintained just like it was in the past. We get to see the Parade which lasts for 20 mins and the bunker too.

After Spending couple of hours at the Fort we drove about 30mins to Kingston Downtown with the plan of visiting Kingston Penitentiary. Unfortunately it was closed for the day.

We parked our vehicle along the roads and decided to experience the boardwalk. It was filled with people, Restaurants and Music. Swimming was allowed in some areas. Kingston Downtown was beautiful and gave you that small town feel. Canada's First Prime Minister's house is located there. You could easily spend 2-3hrs if you are interested in these kind of attractions.

That night we stayed at Kingston as we have more places to visit the next day (marking the Penitentiary first in the list). It is advisable to book the tickets in advance for the Penitentiary visit.

We entered the Penitentiary as it opens at 9.00 AM. Only guided tours with various time limits were available. We had to book the first one available at that time but it was not at all boring. We get to see the cell blocks and various rooms. Their Ex employees work as a guide gave interesting tit bits as stroll our way along the area.

This confinement was built in the 1800s was in use till 1990s. It was horrifying to listen about the riots that took place inside the Jail.

Around noon we drove to 1000 islands, Gananoque. It was 6 miles away from the Penitentiary. We took a 3 hour cruise. Shortest one was for 1hr and 5hr cruise which let you get off the fort inside the island was also available.

The cruise was ok but kids didn't enjoy the duration. It was "boring" for them and so hot that we couldn't spend time on the deck.

The same cruise could be taken from NY too !!!

Our stay at Kingston came to an end. It was a chilled visit for us and we enjoyed it.
